2025 Marlon Johnson Award of Excellence Recipient
2025 winner Mia Weaver presented by Adam Beamer
The following speech was made by 2024 Marlon Johnson Award winner, Britta Hagen, as she announced the 2025 Marlon Award of Excellence for a Player.
Good evening players, parents, and staff. My name is Britta Hagen and I played volleyball for 3 years here at Northern Lights. I just finished my first year at St. Olaf College playing volleyball, singing in choir, and working towards a double major in social work and religion with a concentration in education. Last year, I had the honor of being awarded the Marlon Johnson Award, and I am extremely excited to announce this year’s winner. I never had the opportunity to meet Marlon Johnson, but I have heard about all of the wonderful things he did and the positive impact that he left on this club. The Marlon Johnson award recognizes a player who has made a positive impact on both her teammates and coaches. I am honored to be able to present this award to a player who truly encompasses the Marlon Johnson award and all that it entails. This player is an all around amazing person who cares for others and has a kind heart. On the court, she is a vocal leader and gives her all out effort. This athlete is dynamic, hardworking, and focused. She is extremely versatile and selfless as she is willing to fill any role that is needed for the team. For the final month of the 18-1’s season, they connected with younger teams in the club. This player showed genuine investment and joy when connecting with the younger players. This year’s Marlon Johnson award winner is an all around amazing girl. Next year she will play volleyball at the University of Missouri Kansas. Please join me in congratulating this year’s award winner Mia Weaver.
